Well-behaved relativity: regular black holes

چکیده
Numerical Study of 3d Rotating Black Hole Spacetimes By
We present new developments in 3D numerical relativity that bring the field for the first time close to providing useful astrophysical information about the orbital merger of binary black holes relevant for interferometric gravitational wave detectors, coming on line by the end of 2001. Our study begins with two different families of black hole initial data, a new single distorted spinning blac...
متن کاملComment on "Regular black hole in general relativity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics"
In General Relativity the existence of singularities appears to be a property inherent to most of the physically relevant solutions of Einstein equations, in particular, to all known up–to–date black hole exact solutions [1]. The Penrose cosmic censorship conjecture states that these singularities must be dressed by event horizons; no causal connection could exist between the interior of a blac...
متن کاملBlack Holes in Einstein-Aether Theory
We study black hole solutions in general relativity coupled to a unit timelike vector field dubbed the “aether”. To be causally isolated a black hole interior must trap matter fields as well as all aether and metric modes. The theory possesses spin-0, spin1, and spin-2 modes whose speeds depend on four coupling coefficients. We find that the full three-parameter family of local spherically symm...
متن کاملTowards Simulations of 3d Black Hole Coalescence
I review recent developments in numerical relativity, focussing on progress made in 3D black hole evolution. Progress in development of black hole initial data, apparent horizon boundary conditions, adaptive mesh refinement, and characteristic evolution is highlighted, as well as full 3D simulations of colliding and distorted black holes. For true 3D distorted holes, with Cauchy evolution techn...
متن کاملGravitational Waves and Black Holes An Introduction to General Relativity
In these lectures general relativity is outlined as the classical field theory of gravity, emphasizing physical phenomena rather than formalism. Dynamical solutions representing traveling waves as well as stationary fields like those of black holes are discussed. Their properties are investigated by studying the geodesic structure of the corresponding space-times, as representing the motion of ...
متن کاملMeasurements of Black Hole Spins and Tests of Strong-Field General Relativity
Fast variability studies of accreting black holes in the Galaxy offer us a unique opportunity to measure the spins of black holes and test the strong-field behavior of general relativity. In this review, I summarize the arguments often used in attempts of measuring the spins of black holes, concentrating on their theoretical foundations. I also argue that X-ray studies of accreting black holes ...
